The 2014 Gr.1 Deutsches Derby victor Sea The Moon (Sea The Stars) celebrated his first victory as a sire yesterday when Must See The Doc scored a battling victory in the first division of the novice stakes at Doncaster for owner-breeders Paul and Clare Rooney.

Sea The Moon, who stands Lanwades Stud in Newmarket, won his own only start at two, before returning to win the Gr.3 Fruhjahrs-Preis des Bankhauses Metzler over a mile and quarter at Frankfurt on his three-year-old debut. He then progressed to win the Gr.2 Oppenheim-Union Rennen at Cologne by three lengths, before triumphing in the Gr.1 Deutsches Derby at Hamburg by a staggering 11 lengths. Second in the Gr.1 Grosser Preis von Baden on his only other start, Sea The Moon retired the winner of four of his five starts and was crowned Horse of the Year in Germany for 2014. Sea The Moon stood for £15,000 at Lanwades this season.
